Description
Going away with nobody to feed the tank? The AquaFish Weekend Feeder is a slow release food block for small community aquariums, the kind stocked with tetras, guppies, rasboras or a couple of small goldfish. It drops straight into the water and breaks down gradually, feeding up to six small fish for as long as 10 days.
The reason a block beats a helpful neighbour is water quality. Fish should only ever get what they can finish in a minute or two, because leftover food breaks down into ammonia, which is toxic in a closed tank. A visitor tipping in a generous pinch morning and night can foul a small aquarium in a few days, faster than the filter bacteria can cope with. A block releases its food slowly instead, so there is nothing to measure and nobody can overfeed.
Give the tank a partial water change before you leave, drop the block in as you head out the door, and lift out whatever is left when you get home so it is not sitting there decaying.
