Aquasonic Bactonex is a broad spectrum treatment for bacterial, fungal and protozoal infections in freshwater and marine aquariums, covering whitespot, velvet, chilodonella, trichodina and trichodinella in a single product rather than asking you to identify the culprit first and buy a separate medication for each.
That makes it useful in three situations: as a direct treatment when fish look stressed or off their food, as a precaution when introducing new fish or running a quarantine tank, and during routine water changes.
The handling notes are not optional. Bactonex contains aminacrine hydrochloride and methylene blue, so remove all activated carbon from your filter before dosing, because carbon absorbs the actives and undercuts the treatment. Keep the tank well aerated throughout. The pack directs 10mL per 40 litres, repeated after five days if needed, but always confirm against the label on your bottle. If you keep shrimp, snails or other invertebrates, check the label before dosing the display tank.
