Description
Butter yellow and white stripes, with honey pots, bees and small wildflowers stitched along them. Honey Meadow is the collar for long spring evenings and golden hour walks, and the yellow does something practical as well as pretty: it stays visible on a dark dog in low light, when a black or brown collar has already vanished into the coat.
Stitched rather than printed
The detail on this one is embroidery, not ink, which is worth knowing before you compare it to the printed collars in the range. A print sits on the surface of the fabric and gradually gives up its brightness to sunlight and hot water. Embroidery is thread worked into the cloth, so the honey pots and bees keep their colour and their slightly raised texture far longer. That is why it costs a little more than a printed collar, and why it still looks new after a season.
Underneath the stripes
- Solid neoprene padding running through the collar
- Plastic side-release buckle
- Fully adjustable inside each size
- D-ring at the front for the lead or an ID tag
- Four sizes, X-Small through Large
Padding is not decoration here. On a dog who pulls, an unpadded strap drives the whole force of the lunge into one narrow line across the throat, which wears a groove in the coat over months. The neoprene body spreads that pressure and keeps a soft edge against the skin on a dog who wears a collar all day.
The X-Small is the puppy size
Cocopup London makes the X-Small as a puppy collar, still padded but cut narrower at 1cm wide, for necks of 23.5cm to 28cm. Spring is puppy season and this is the size that suits one. When they outgrow it, the Small spans 28cm to 44cm, so the next collar lasts a great deal longer than the first.
Size guide
| Size | Neck | Width |
|---|---|---|
| X-Small | 23.5 to 28cm | 1cm |
| Small | 28 to 44cm | 1.5cm |
| Medium | 32 to 50cm | 2cm |
| Large | 46 to 71cm | 2.5cm |
How to measure and how to wash it
Measure around the base of the neck, where the collar naturally rests rather than high under the jaw, then confirm two fingers fit between the tape and the coat. The bands overlap on purpose, so a dog at 33cm or 48cm can take either of two sizes. To wash, use 30 degrees inside a wash bag, which keeps the buckle and D-ring from knocking about and stops the embroidery catching on anything else in the drum, then air dry rather than tumble dry.
Honey Meadow appears elsewhere in the range, so a lead to go with it is straightforward, and a treat pouch is handy on the walks where you are still working on recall.
