Description
Some dogs suit a print and some dogs suit a fabric. Sage tweed is for the second kind: a muted green herringbone that looks like it belongs on a long walk through paddocks and pine, and that flatters a brown, black or brindle coat rather than shouting over it. Herringbone is a weave rather than a pattern printed on top, so it reads as texture up close and as a soft solid green from across a field.

Finding your size
Measure around the base of the neck, low, where the collar will actually rest, and allow two fingers of space between the tape and the coat. A dog measuring 30cm takes the Small. A dog at 48cm can take either Medium or Large, and that overlap is deliberate across the range, so a dog still filling out does not need a new collar every few weeks.
The X-Small is the puppy size and it is built differently on purpose: still padded, but narrower at 1cm wide so it sits lightly on a neck of 23.5cm to 28cm. A puppy in an adult width spends the first fortnight trying to scratch it off.
Why it is padded
The tweed face sits over solid neoprene padding, which on a country walk is not a luxury. A young dog who spots a rabbit hits the end of the lead hard, and a thin unpadded strap turns that into a narrow line of pressure across the throat and, over time, a worn patch in the coat. Padding spreads the same force across a wider, softer surface. Fully adjustable, with a plastic side-release buckle and a D-ring at the front for the lead clip or a name tag.
Does tweed cope with mud?
It copes, provided you wash it properly. Wash at 30 degrees inside a wash bag, which stops the buckle and D-ring clattering against the drum, then air dry it. Avoid a hot wash and the tumble dryer: heat is what dulls a woven collar and tires out the plastic hardware, far more than a muddy walk ever will.
