The other reason it works for a card is that it sits high on the throat, right where a dog's face is. Whatever your dog does with the rest of their body during the shoot, the bow stays in frame. You are not relying on the dog holding a pose, which, historically, they will not.
Getting it on before the dog changes their mind
This bow does not slide onto a collar. It wraps around the collar or a harness strap and fastens with velcro on the reverse. That means no unbuckling, no threading, and no need for a specific collar: it goes onto whatever your dog is already wearing, at whatever width. Three seconds on, three seconds off. If you have ever tried to get twelve photos before the light goes, you will understand why that is the feature that actually matters.

Classic or Sailor
At 10cm x 7cm this is the Classic, the neater of the two cuts and the right proportion for a small dog. The Sailor version of Ralphie Reindeer is 13cm x 11cm, which is a considerably larger bow and better suited to a big dog or a dog with a coat deep enough to hide a small one.
Said plainly
It is a styling accessory, not walking gear. Use it for the shoot and the lunch and take it off afterwards rather than leaving it on an unsupervised dog. The velcro exists so that is easy rather than a production.
