Description
Hikari Algae Wafers are a sinking daily food for plecostomus and other herbivorous bottom feeding fish, in pack sizes from 20g up to 1kg.
Plecos are grazers. In a river they spend their time rasping algae and soft plant matter off submerged wood and rock, and they are badly served by flake food that sits at the surface and gets eaten by faster mid water fish long before it reaches the substrate. These wafers fix that. They sink straight to the bottom and then hold their shape on the gravel instead of clouding away into the water column, so a slow grazing fish can settle on a wafer and work through it at its own pace. The plant forward formulation is built around a herbivore's digestion rather than being a repurposed carnivore diet.
Feed once or twice a day, offering only what your fish finish within a few minutes. Plecos are largely nocturnal, so dropping a wafer in after the tank lights go out is often the most reliable way to make sure the fish it is meant for actually gets it. Lift out anything left the next morning, because uneaten food breaks down into ammonia and pushes your water quality backwards.
