Description
Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold Plus is a colour enhancing pellet for carnivorous cichlids and other larger aquarium fish, built around astaxanthin in a form the fish can readily absorb and convert into visible colour. Astaxanthin is the carotenoid behind the deep reds and oranges you see in well kept cichlids, and fish cannot manufacture it themselves. It has to come from the diet, which is why two fish of the same species can look entirely different depending on what they are fed.
The formula also includes beneficial living microorganisms, included to support rapid growth without the excess fat deposits that often accompany a high growth diet. Fast growth and a soft, overconditioned fish are not the same outcome, and the distinction matters for long lived species like cichlids.
Two pellet sizes are offered, Mini at 3.2 to 3.7mm and Medium at 4.8 to 5.3mm, so smaller cichlids are not left struggling with food sized for much larger tankmates. Feed once or twice daily, only as much as your fish consume in a few minutes, and remove leftovers before they break down into ammonia.
