Description
Oscars, jack dempseys, severums and other South and Central American cichlids are predators, and they need a diet that reflects it. Hikari Cichlid Gold is a premium pellet formulated for carnivorous cichlids and larger tropical fish, with a higher protein level than the herbivore focused Excel range and natural colour enhancers worked into the formula.
The colour part is worth explaining. A carnivorous cichlid on a bland diet will stay alive but will often look washed out, because the pigments behind those deep reds and oranges come from what the fish eats. Cichlid Gold includes natural colour enhancers aimed squarely at bringing those tones out, alongside the protein these species need for solid growth.
Pellet size is the other thing to get right. Cichlid Gold comes in Baby, Mini, Medium and Large, so you can match the pellet to the mouth in front of you. A pellet too large is ignored or spat out, and one too small for a full grown Oscar is barely worth its trouble.
- High protein diet for carnivorous cichlids and large tropical fish
- Natural colour enhancers for vivid reds and oranges
- Four pellet sizes from Baby through to Large
- Available in 57g and 250g packs
- Feed once or twice daily, only what is eaten in a few minutes
It is not the right staple for herbivorous species such as Malawi mbuna, which need Cichlid Excel instead. Compare both in our full range of fish supplies.
