Large carnivorous cichlids are not always surface feeders. Many patrol the middle and lower levels of the tank, and in a busy community of big fish the bolder individuals clean up floating pellets before anyone else gets a look in. Hikari Cichlid Gold Sinking puts the same premium carnivore formula into a pellet that drops through the water column to reach them.
It carries the high protein content those species need for growth, along with the natural colour enhancers that bring out the deep reds and oranges a good cichlid is known for. Fish fed a bland diet stay healthy enough but often look faded, because the pigment has to come from somewhere.
Two pellet sizes are available, Mini and Medium, so you can match the food to the size of the fish rather than making a large Oscar chase crumbs or a smaller cichlid struggle with an oversized pellet. Feed once or twice daily, giving only what is eaten within a few minutes. Sinking pellets are easy to overfeed since you cannot watch them float, so check the substrate and siphon out anything left.
