Description
Guppies, mollies, platies and swordtails are livebearers, and a tank of them is usually a tank that is breeding whether you planned it or not. Hikari Fancy Guppy is a scientifically developed diet aimed at that, supporting reproduction, growth rate and the colour these fish are kept for.
Livebearers carry their young internally and drop batches of fry every few weeks, which is demanding on a small female. Food aimed at reproductive condition and fin development does more for a guppy colony than generic tropical nutrition, particularly where males are being bred for finnage and colour. Guppies also feed at and just under the surface, with small upturned mouths, so food needs to stay accessible near the top and be small enough to swallow whole.
Feed one or two small pinches a day, only as much as is taken within a couple of minutes. Guppy tanks are often small and heavily stocked, so leftovers push ammonia up quickly. If fry are present, they need a much finer food of their own for the first weeks rather than the adult diet.
