Description
Newly hatched or newly dropped fry are tiny, and most of them are lost in the first fortnight simply because nothing in the tank is small enough for them to eat. Hikari First Bites is a fine particle food formulated for that window, when fry are too small for crushed flake and far too small for any pellet.
Fry have almost no stomach capacity and very high energy needs, so they need small amounts often rather than one or two big feeds. The particle size here is the whole point: food that a fry cannot physically take in is just waste breaking down into ammonia, and fry are the fish least able to tolerate poor water. Highly digestible ingredients matter for the same reason, since young fish have immature digestive systems.
Spread several small feeds across the day, and keep up with small, gentle water changes to cope with the extra feeding. As the fry grow you can move them onto a crushed flake or a micro pellet, and then onto the adult diet for their species.

Rearing a batch is easier with a sponge filter and a spare tank, both in everything else for your aquarium.
