Description
Hikari Shrimp Cuisine is a food built specifically for ornamental freshwater shrimp such as cherry shrimp and crystal shrimp, in a 10g pack.
Shrimp are not small fish, and feeding them crushed fish flake is a common mistake. Shrimp graze along the substrate and on plant and wood surfaces, they eat slowly rather than in a quick frenzy, and they have a moulting cycle that fish do not. Every time a shrimp outgrows its shell it sheds it and grows a new one, and that process depends on a steady supply of the right minerals and nutrition rather than a protein heavy diet aimed at fish. This food is formulated around those requirements, which is why it suits the delicate high grade varieties that tend to be the first to suffer in a colony when the diet is wrong.
Offer only a small amount and only as much as the colony clears within a couple of hours. Shrimp tanks are usually lightly filtered and heavily planted, so leftover food is the fastest route to an ammonia spike in a small volume. Remove anything uneaten, keep the water stable, and let biofilm and algae make up the rest of their diet naturally.
