Pet Worx 4mm Airline is the flexible silicone tubing that carries air from your pump to whatever needs it inside the tank: airstones, sponge filters, bubble bars and air driven ornaments.
It is easy to treat airline as an afterthought, but it is the link the rest of an aeration setup depends on. An air pump only helps if the air actually arrives, and the usual reason a sponge filter slows to a trickle or an airstone goes quiet is not the pump at all. It is tubing that has kinked behind the cabinet, gone brittle and split at a joint, or hardened with age until it will not seat properly on a barb. Silicone stays supple for far longer than cheap vinyl, so it bends around tank rims and cabinet corners without collapsing the bore and cutting off the flow, and it keeps a tight grip on fittings instead of slipping off.
Cut it to length with scissors, allowing a little slack rather than pulling it tight across a corner. Fit a check valve between the pump and the tank, or mount the pump above the water line, because if power fails an airline running below the waterline will happily siphon your tank out onto the floor. Replace any length that has yellowed, stiffened or developed a permanent crease.
