Description
Pet Worx WXF canister filters handle the filtration on freshwater and saltwater aquariums up to around 550 litres, in three models.
A canister filter is the answer to the problem every stocked tank has. Fish waste and uneaten food break down into ammonia, which is toxic, and the only thing that deals with it is a colony of beneficial bacteria converting ammonia to nitrite and then to far less harmful nitrate. Those bacteria need somewhere to live and a constant flow of oxygenated water passing over them, and a canister gives them both: litres of media sitting outside the tank in a sealed chamber, with the pump pushing the entire tank volume through it many times an hour. Multi stage media does the rest, trapping solids mechanically, hosting the bacterial colony biologically, and polishing out dissolved organics chemically. Because the whole unit sits in the cabinet below, you get that capacity without losing space or sightlines inside the tank.
The WXF-1200 moves 1200 litres per hour on 25 watts with 3 stage filtration, for tanks up to around 300 litres. The WXF-1800UV runs 1800 litres per hour with 4 stage filtration and a built in 9 watt UV steriliser, for tanks up to around 450 litres. The WXF-2200UV moves 2200 litres per hour on 45 watts, also with 4 stage filtration and 9 watt UV, for tanks up to around 550 litres. The UV models help control free floating algae and waterborne bacteria, which is what clears green water.

Choose the model rated above your tank volume rather than exactly at it, especially on a heavily stocked or messy tank such as a cichlid or goldfish setup. A new filter also starts sterile, so cycle the tank or seed the media from an established filter before adding fish. Browse the full filtration range.
