Description
The Pet Worx LED Multi Spectrum Lamp Mini is a compact aquarium light for nano and small tanks, available in 6 watt and 12 watt versions.
Aquarium lighting does two jobs at once and they pull in different directions. It has to make the fish look the way they do in daylight, and it has to give live plants something they can photosynthesise with. A single colour LED will do neither well, which is why a tank lit with a cheap white strip often looks washed out and grows nothing. Multi spectrum LEDs cover a broader range of wavelengths, so reds and blues on your fish read as they should to the eye and plants get usable light across the range they need.
LEDs also solve the older problem of heat. Fluorescent and halogen fittings dump warmth into a small tank, and a nano aquarium has so little water volume that it swings in temperature quickly, which stresses fish. An LED runs cool and draws far less power for a light left on eight to ten hours a day.
Key details
- Multi spectrum LEDs for natural colour rendition and plant growth
- Compact mini format for nano tanks or as a supplementary light
- Runs cool, so it will not heat a small water volume
- Low power draw for daily use
- Two options: 6w and 12w
Pick by tank size. The 6w suits the smallest nano setups, the 12w gives more output for a slightly larger tank or a deeper one where light has further to travel. Neither is intended to light a large, deep or heavily planted display tank. For bigger setups, see more aquarium lighting and equipment.
