Description
The Pet Worx Twin Air Pump drives two air lines from one unit, in the WXA-201 and the higher output WXA-202.
An air pump is not really about the bubbles. Fish take oxygen from the water, not from the air above it, and gas exchange happens almost entirely at the surface where oxygen dissolves in and carbon dioxide leaves. A still surface exchanges gas slowly, and in a warm, well stocked or heavily planted tank that becomes the limiting factor, showing up as fish hanging near the top gasping in the early morning when oxygen is at its lowest. Bubbles from an airstone rise and push water up with them, constantly turning the surface over and renewing the layer in contact with the air. The same rising column is what powers a sponge filter, drawing water through foam and keeping oxygen flowing to the beneficial bacteria that convert ammonia and nitrite. Those bacteria are aerobic, so aeration protects your biological filtration as much as it protects your fish.
The twin outlet is the practical part. One pump can run an airstone and a sponge filter together, or split between two smaller tanks, without a second unit or a second power point. Use airline to connect it, and fit a check valve or sit the pump above the waterline so water cannot siphon back if power is lost.
Key details
- Two independent air outlets from a single pump
- Runs an airstone and a sponge filter together, or two tanks at once
- Improves surface agitation and oxygen exchange
- Built for quiet, continuous operation
- Two output options: WXA-201 and WXA-202
Choose by total demand rather than tank size alone, taking the WXA-202 if you are driving two sponge filters or a deeper tank where the pump works harder against water pressure. Airline and airstones sold separately in the complete aquarium equipment range.
