Description
Sera Insect Granules are a slowly sinking daily staple for tropical community fish built on insect protein, in 36g, 95g and 410g.
Most ornamental fish are insectivores in the wild. Tetras, barbs, rasboras, danios, gouramis and killifish spend their lives picking off insect larvae, water fleas and terrestrial insects that fall onto the surface, so a diet led by insect protein is closer to what they naturally eat than one built on processed fish meal. It is also a far more sustainable protein source, since farming insects does not draw on wild caught fish stocks the way conventional fish meal does. Fish tend to take to it readily for the same reason it makes ecological sense: it is what they are looking for.
The granules sink slowly rather than floating or dropping straight to the gravel, which puts the food in the mid water zone where most community fish actually feed and keeps it in front of them for longer. Feed once or twice a day, only as much as is eaten within a couple of minutes, and net out the leftovers before they break down and drive ammonia up.
Key details
- Staple granule food built on sustainable insect protein
- Slowly sinking, suiting mid water community fish
- Closely mirrors a natural insectivore diet
- Complete daily nutrition, not a supplement
- Available in 36g, 95g and 410g
Granules suit fish with a reasonable mouth size, so very small species and fry are better served by a finer food. See more fish care essentials for the alternatives.
