Description
Sera Vipachips Tropical Wafers are a daily staple for the fish that live on the floor of your tank: corydoras, loaches, catfish and other bottom feeders. Available in 37g, 90g and 380g.
Bottom dwellers are the most commonly underfed fish in a community aquarium, and it is almost never deliberate. Flake food floats and drifts, and by the time it reaches the substrate the guppies, tetras and barbs above have already taken most of it. These wafers are made to sink fast and go straight past the mid water crowd to the fish that need them. Just as importantly they hold their shape once they land, so instead of dissolving into a cloud that fouls the water, a wafer sits intact on the gravel while a slow feeding cory works its way around it. Many bottom feeders are also nocturnal or crepuscular, so a wafer dropped in as the lights go off reaches them when they are actually active.
Feed once or twice a day, only what is cleared in a few minutes, and siphon out any remains. Food pushed down into the substrate is the classic hidden source of ammonia, so a gravel vacuum at water change time matters more in a tank with bottom feeders than in one without.
