Description
ThunderShirt for Dogs is the original, vet recommended calming solution that helps reduce anxiety in dogs without drugs, available in Extra Small through Extra Large.
ThunderShirt applies gentle, constant pressure around the torso, the same principle behind swaddling an infant or a weighted blanket. A 2014 study published in the Journal of Veterinary Behavior found dogs wearing a properly fitted ThunderShirt showed a smaller rise in heart rate and fewer stress behaviours than dogs in a loose shirt or no shirt at all. Around 80 percent of ThunderShirt users report an improvement in their dog's anxiety, and it is commonly used for thunderstorms, fireworks, travel, vet visits and separation anxiety.
Fit matters: the shirt should be snug but never restrictive, with the neck strap loose enough for two fingers underneath, since the neck strap only holds the shirt in place and is not part of the calming pressure. Introduce it during calm periods well before a stressful event so your dog builds a positive association, rather than reaching for it for the first time mid panic.
