How the cooling actually works
Inside the mat is a non-toxic gel that is pressure activated. Your pet's own body weight triggers it, so it starts drawing heat away the moment they lie down. There is nothing to freeze, nothing to refrigerate, no water to fill and nothing to plug in. When the mat has been in continuous use for several hours the cooling effect fades; leave it unused in a shaded spot for about 30 minutes and it recharges itself with no help from you. Keep it out of direct sun and out of a parked car, because the mat will take on ambient heat and then it has nothing to give.

How to choose your size
Measure your pet nose to base of tail while they are lying stretched out and add roughly 15 to 20cm, then match that to the longer figure above. A cooling mat only works where body meets gel, so a pet that sprawls flat wants the full surface under them, and a mat that is too small ends up with half the dog on the floorboards. Cats and small dogs that curl are well served by the Small. If you are between sizes, size up: the extra area costs little and gives a warm pet somewhere to shuffle across to. Sitting the mat inside a crate or on top of an existing bed works fine, just check the mat lies flat rather than folded.

Cleaning: wipe clean only. Wipe it over with a damp cloth to lift hair, dirt and debris. Unlike the beds we stock, this mat is not machine washable, so if you need something you can strip and throw in the wash, it is not the right product.
